Travel Tips for Driving From Aktion Airport

Western Greece offers scenic drives, but local traffic rules and infrastructure require careful attention.

• The Preveza-Aktion Undersea Tunnel: To head north from the airport (towards Preveza/Parga), you must pass through the Aktion Undersea Tunnel. It is a short, toll-enforced tunnel. Keep a small amount of cash coins or a contactless card ready for the toll booths.
• Lefkada Floating Bridge Etiquette: The floating bridge connecting the mainland to Lefkada opens briefly every hour on the hour to let sailing masts pass. If you arrive exactly on the hour, expect to wait 10–15 minutes in a brief car queue while the bridge swings open.
• Winding Rural Roads & Livestock: Once you leave the major national roads, the terrain becomes highly mountainous and winding. Speed limits drop rapidly, and it is very common to encounter herds of goats or sheep blocking rural roads. Slow down around blind corners.
